Three Years Ago Today...

Three years ago today we took that long ride across the bridge to CHOP with Megan.

Three years ago today, sometime around now, Dr. Lerch called me and said, "We think Megan has Leukemia." My first response, "Dear God." and then, "CHARLIE!". Thank the Lord he was home. I think it was the worst day of my life. Our worst nightmare.

I remember going to our stake president President Corbitt's home, and him giving Megan a blessing because Charlie didn't think he'd be able to speak. I remember him saying in the blessing to watch for the miracles. I remember them lifting their hands off of Megan's head and Charlie's shirt being soaked with his tears. I remember feeling so numb that I didn't cry much at all.

I still remember crossing the Walt Whitman Bridge and praying - not knowing...just not knowing...

One of the doctors told us, "She needs to get this treatment or she will die." Well duh - of course we were going to get her the treatment. We knew that. Charlie and I both knew that people got Leukemia and died.

I called my friend Joy Lundberg that day. Dear Dear Joy. While in the emergency room, I opened and read an email that she sent me right away and that completely changed what I - and Charlie - were feeling. She sent me quotes from doctors about Leukemia - this was treatable - and patients live! And they are cured!

Three weeks later Megan's blood counts started to recover and the doctor came into the hospital room and her words were, "This is miraculous. I haven't seen this in a long, long time."

Two years ago this weekend Charlie and I did the Disney Half Marathon.

Yesterday Megan ran 6 miles. <3

  3. Exactly three years ago today, our little angel granddaughter Emry Anne was born. Miraculously, she was born and then lived thirteen days. The eternal lessons we learn from challenges are excruciating at the time but well worth it in the end.
Megan is a fighter who is stronger today because of her challenges. So are you, Sue. Love ya!
